Building Envelope Thermal Bridging (BETB) Guide

Abstract

Prior to launching the BETB Guide in 2014, the impact of thermal bridging was largely overlooked in practice, energy standards and energy calculations. The impact of thermal bridging is now clearer, and comprehensive thermal bridging calculations have become a requirement in codes and standards across Canada and internationally.

The BETB Guide is an essential resource for thermal bridging calculations and promotes the development and adoption of net-zero ready building codes and standards. The BETB guide presents comprehensive and straightforward procedures, including examples, for evaluating the impact of thermal bridging.

The BETB data has mitigated to a database on a web-based platform at ThermalEnvelope.ca. Thermal Envelope integrates the BETB database with tools to search, compare, calculate, and collaborate on projects.

The last update to the BETB Guide was in 2021 with the release of version 1.6. Since the release of BETB V1.6, only Thermal Envelope has been updated with new data. Check-out Thermal Envelope for new details and assemblies.
